Frankly, though, the writing on X-Men disappointed me so badly, that I stopped following the series a number of years ago.

I mean... 50 years of afterthoughts, incoherent and inconsistent writing, reboots, shapeshifter/doubles storylines and... well, to be frank, some examples of piss-poor writing which afterwards needed generations of retconning... (forever be damned, Uncanny X-Men volume 435!) pretty much brought X-Men to that point - THAT point - where attempts to make storylines into films are as doomed as any attempt at making a good Fantastic Four film.

So yeah, I guess X-Men has finally reached that point where it's better to be laid to rest.

Good luck, Inhumans, and may you never fall for the same pitfalls that brought the X-Men franchise crashing down...
